Extreme Couponing Turns Violent
Police in Germantown, Tennessee, arrested the manager of a discount store last week after she allegedly attacked a customer who attempted to use a large number of coupons. Melissa Mozzo-Mart and Jennifer Hill told police they were shopping at the Dollar Tree, where a sign was posted saying the store is now accepting coupons, when the manager told them they were trying to use too many coupons. The women said they attempted to reason with the manager, who was caught on a cellphone recording saying the women “better make like water and get to running.” Hill left the store first and watched as Mozzo-Mart collected her coupons. However, before the second woman could leave, she was attacked by the manager. “With her fist balled up that’s when she hit me in the eye and the face,” Mozzo-Mart said. The manager was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor assault. Dollar Tree officials said the incident is being investigated. The women both say they never thought they’d come to blows for clipping coupons. “We were trying to save a little money,” Hill said.
