Years ago in Nashville, I had a chance to meet & hang with this tall, lanky, long haired guy who had just come on to the country music scene. He seemed pretty down to earth. We shared some stories about growing up & watched people as they walked by. One afternoon (by then, I think we were pretty tight)...I saw him at an ATM. I told him to pull out enough money so that he could buy a new pair of boots. He said he hadn't gotten to that point in his career, yet.

Years later, the guy is a superstar! He's on national televeision, scored many #1 songs, happily married, cut his hair, and can now afford a new pair of boots. It's been a long road for my compadre Blake Shelton - but he is here!
