At a recent assembly at a jr high school gym brought some national attention to a student, in May. Some mocked him & the bass drummer laughed at him...but, as far as I am concerned, he did what he thought was appropriate. You can't blame the kid.
We are taught as kids, to stand at attention during the national anthem. Unfortunately, I've been to stadiums where adults, athletes, and coaches are walking or running while the anthem is being performed. Is there any respect for the flag anymore? I understand a team may be late getting on the field, but if that anthem is being played or sung, you need to stop what you are doing.
I have to admit, when I was a freshman in high school, I did that. I had to get oil for my instrument, so I ran back to the band hall...and right behind me, was my principal. He let me have it. "You stand still & don't move during the national anthem," he said. Since then, I am STILL!
The parents of this young gentleman should be applauded for teaching their child. He was performing, something went wrong & he reacted rather quickly & stood at attention. Way 2 go!
