This thing is so huge, Jay Leno has talked about it, Mitt Romney, and now, the Oregon Marching Band is also doing it.

As we head into the Area round of marching competition, this weekend, I wanted to share this video with you, to get ya' in the mood! Njoy!

It's that time of the year...when students shine their horn, oil their valves, and the butterflies begin to kick in! The 70th Annual Pigskin Jubilee is this weekend.

I remember being a part of Pigskin when I was at La Feria High School. It was so much fun. I remember walking onto the field in McAllen thinking, wow - this is the biggest stadium in the Valley & all eyes are on us, for the next 15 minutes! What a fantastic feeling.

I know a lot of kiddos have put in some long hours, since the summer...lot of sweat, tears, dropped horns, stained shoes, and a little sun burn for some...

This weekend is when it pays off. I'd encourage everyone to be a part of PJ. It is a tremendous effort put on by the students & for anyone who enjoys music. Over the last 2 weekends, I've had a chance to see several bands & thier shows. I have been impressed with a lot of them. Two that come to mind are Harlingen & Weslaco. For our friends in the Coastal Bend, Tuloso-Midway has a very neat show as well.

The RGV has two regions, so the bands west of Donna, will be playing in McAllen. From Donna, east - bands will be performing at Bobby Morrow Stadium in San Benito. Both facilities are fantastic places to play, with quality band programs, boosters, and administration. Make plans to attend either one. It is well worth the price of admission. If you go early, take an umbrella to block out the sun.

This weekend promises to be a very exciting time - look forward to hearing some strong brass!

I found a video online. It's the Ohio State University Band performing their halftime show. I am not a Buckeye fan at all, but I enjoy good music & this was a fantastic performance. The audio is not great, but the visual is fantastic. Listen closely, as you will hear some familiar sound effects. Their show pays tribute to video games...from Halo, Pac-Man, Tetris, and several more. Njoy!

For those that joined us two years ago, at our first annual 10 Man Jam, you'll remember an appearance & performance by Katie Armiger. Her current single is climbing the charts (Better In A Black Dress).

It May Not Be What Francis Scott Key Had In Mind....

The Star Spangled Banner is the most revered songs in the United States. People from all over the world can't say that they have the luxury & freedom that we do as Americans. Because of the fight that our men & women of the military have committed to do, we can hold our heads up high & say that we live in a great country. Yes, we have problems, but our overall situation is much better than other countries.

Even people that bash the United States & burn our flag - have that right to do so in our country. Do I agree, absolutely not!

In America, I get to go where I want, when I want, and do things that I want, including listen to the music that I want. I recently ran across this video & wanted to share it with our KTEX listeners. It's our national anthem...done by a rock band. I had mixed feelings when I first heard it - it started pretty cool with a nice bass line to it, but then it got "rocky-er"...

From the conservative side of me, I wasn't sure about it - but on the other hand, I thought - that's what makes this country great - these guys just put a different spin on the song. Is it ok? Last week, I had a chance to meet Jay Dominguez. Jay works at Hermes Music in McAllen. It was a pleasure to hear that he was a fan of country music & even had his own country band, years ago in San Antonio. Jay is a knowledgeable person and loaded with stories.

During our visit, Jay shared this video with me. Its about our culture and the effort made by people to make their lives better. "Claro Que Se Puede" - it's possible...features Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Del Castillo, and Los Lonely Boys.

Keith Urban is a very talented singer & musician. I remember seeing him at corporate meetings, years ago in Nashville. He played guitar & banjo & really wow'd the crowd (made up of radio professionals - who are not easily impressed at 7am). He & I had a chance to spend some time together. It was a 'different' time for Keith at this point - on the path of launching a career in country music & dealing with all the pressure that comes with it.

Today, he & I look back at pictures & memories when we run into each other, 'every now & then...' I remember we attended a disco party one night. It was late & we were both doing the 'disco duck'...funny stuff!

This past weekend, Keith was enjoying the U.S. Open with his wife of six years, Nicole Kidman, or 'Nic', as he calls her.

He also recently performed in Niagra Falls. He covered a song that has been released by Miranda Lambert, "Fastest Girl In Town". Check out the video & njoy!

The first week of football season is underway in the college ranks...and already there's something making the highlight reels. It's not an amazing catch, pass, or freak play...well, I guess freak play is a good way to describe this...from the "ugh, oops" files...

Thanks to a Kent State University special teams player, they have created the first 2012 football season blunder. KSU punted the ball, the opponent touched the ball, making the ball "live", the KSU player picked up the ball and ran with it...the wrong way!

Saving grace for the team, 1) their opponents actually tried to tackle him & 2) you cannot advance a muffed punt in college ball. Watch the video & njoy!
