    Origami Koi Fish

    Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to create a representation of an object using geometric folds and crease patterns preferably without the use of gluing or cutting the paper, and using only one piece of paper.

    Mayonnaise Jar & Two Beers... 


    When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

    A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. 

    When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. 
      
    He then asked the students if the jar was full. 
      
    They agreed that it was. 
      
    The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. 
      
    He shook the jar lightly. 
      
    The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. 
      
    He then asked the students again if the jar was full. 
      
    They agreed it was. 
      
    The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. 
      
    Of course, the sand filled up everything else. 
      
    He asked once more if the jar was full. 
      
    The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.' 
      
    The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. 
      
    The students laughed.. 
      
    'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. 
      
    The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. 
      
    The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. 
      
    The sand is everything else---the small stuff. 
      
    'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. 
      
    The same goes for life. 
      
    If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.   
      
    Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. 
      
    Spend time with your children. 
      
    Spend time with your parents. 
      
    Visit with grandparents.. 
      
    Take your spouse out to dinner. 
      
    Play another 18. 
      
    There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. 
      
    Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. 
      
    Set your priorities. 
      
    The rest is just sand. 
      
    One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. 
      
    The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.' 
      
    The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend. 



     
    The lesson:
     
    The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials..
     
    the most money...or the most awards.
     
    They simply are the ones who care the most.

    Favorite place to eat...Pepe's Mexican Restaurant in Harlingen and now...Lansky & Brats in Mcallen.

    Best Vacation spot...anywhere with mountains, valleys, but still accessible by car or truck

    If I wasn't in radio, I'd...be doing whatever it took to make a living, and I would try to have fun doing it...or I'd be retired and help my kids and grandkids out.

    Vehicle I Drive...Pontiac van, and Dodge Ram pick-em-up Truck.

    Vehicles I'd like to drive...any Mercedes(500 series on up) and a BMW convertible sportscar, or a Land Rover.

    Pet Peeve...people not listening to a conversation when they're the ones that are being talked to.

    Best Concert I've ever been to...Lots of them are great. including George, Alan and Jimmy Buffet in Dallas(what a show, and it won't ever happen again)

    Biggest celebrity encounter...Meeting George Strait the 1st time. What a great man. And getting to spend some real time with Garth Brooks in Nashville at his home and barn.

    Weekend Getaway...La Isla. even if you don't catch anything while fishing, the waves are a little bit of heaven on earth.

    Wal-Mart or Target...It's definitely Wal-Mart and Best Buy.

    Biggest problem these days...trying to spend more time with family and learning to be more patient with people around me

    Football Team...Cowboys!!! I adopted them after moving from St.Louis

    Baseball team...St. Louis Cardinals. I used to listen to a neighbor of mine talk about the Cardinal teams of the 30's thru 60's, I was fascinated and hooked at a very early age.

    As soon as I've made some travel plans for this new year...I'll let you know.

    I went to St.Louis( county where I grew up) to visit my sister. She's older than I am and still doing great. Caught a few places of interest like the new Busch Stadium for a Cardinals game, and the Missouri Botanical Garden( unbelievably wonderful to walk thru, if fact we took 2 trips and didn't see everything). Plus saw some friends and ate way too much. Loved getting back home though.

    I gotta stop watching tv with my wife...every time a different place is shown(i.e. New Jersey, New York, Maine, Florida, the Greek islands etc) she says "I'd sure like to see that place or visit here". I hope I can get her to a lot of different places, but that list just keeps growing!

    I went about an hour south of Cancun for vacation. If you travel from Cancun south on 307, you will see that tourism is in full swing with resorts every couple of miles. There are family friendly places, more adult oriented places and at any of them, lots of stuff you can do. Some of the resorts are all-inclusive. That means your drinks and meals are taken care of. I'd bring plenty of dollar bills anyway and tip the folks that work at the resort. You'd be amazed at how grateful they are, and how they even go to greater lengths to make your stay perfect.
    You can be as busy as you want to be, with trips and excursions up and down the coast. You're close to the water, so water oriented activities abound. We had a great time and would go again. Do your research to find the best prices. But here's one hint. If you go to a resort, don't overpack! A few swimsuits, sandals,1 pair of good walking shoes, a couple of pairs of shorts, and something to wrap up in walking from the beach to the pool. Guys...Maybe 2 shirts, and 2 pairs of pants. Or ladies a couple
    of pairs of shorts and light dresses. Don't over do the packing. Oh yeah.....LOTS OF SUNSCREEN!!!(especially if you're like me and burn when you turn the light on)

    Here is something we can all take advantage of: using this space to direct other KTEX listeners to spots we have found that are nice depending on what vacation plans you have.
    My wife and I love Las Vegas, but not for the strip but all the places you can go once you get there.(check out my pics). Here's something someone sent me.

    "One of the places you have to check out is Acoma Sky City in New Mexico.This city has been continually inhabited since before Leif Erickson came to these shores in 1000 A.D. The property is handed down by ancient tribal law.It is a matriarchal society,property is willed to the youngest daughter. There is no electricity or running water,no telephones.You need to buy a permit for each camera.The Hotel-casino owned by the tribe is pretty neat too. You can get a great deal on a great ribeye."
